30 New Affordable Homes Coming to Liverpool — Building a Stronger, More Inclusive Community
We are excited to share a major milestone for affordable housing in our community. After years of planning and collaboration, construction is now underway on a new affordable housing development on Lawrence Street in Liverpool that will deliver 30 new rental homes — with a special focus on accessible, barrier-free housing for seniors and those seeking to live independently.
This project, led by Queens Neighbourhood Co-operative Housing Ltd., is made possible through more than $11 million in combined funding from the Government of Canada and the Province of Nova Scotia, demonstrating what can be achieved when all levels of government and the community work together to address housing needs.
At a recent event in Liverpool, representatives from all partners — including South Shore–St. Margarets MP Jessica Fancy, Queens-Shelburne MLA Kim Masland, and Region of Queens Mayor Scott Christian — came together to mark this important step forward in providing secure, affordable homes for our community.
A Community-Led Approach to Affordable Housing
This development reflects the vision and commitment of local volunteers and organizers who have worked diligently over several years to secure approvals and funding. By focusing on affordability, accessibility, and quality of life, this project will make a meaningful difference for many residents.
The co-operative model used for this project is not only a great fit for Liverpool, but it also lays the groundwork for future housing initiatives in Queens County, with plans to build many more homes in the years ahead.
Looking Ahead
As construction progresses, we remain grateful for the continued support of our partners and community members. This project is more than just new homes — it’s about building a stronger, more inclusive community where everyone has a place to call home.
Stay tuned for updates as progress continues on Lawrence Street!
